This occured to me from a silly discussion with my roommate while walking to math tonight. We were goofing around and declaring that we were government agents sent to UCSD to keep tabs on activities at Miramar, and she said something along the lines of, 'yeah, I'm actually a 50 year old man. I just got a brain transplant.'
Which led me to a very warped idea for a story...
Two top-notch gov't black ops agent are killed during a far-less-than-routine mission, though their brains are intact. This is sometime in the future, when brain transplant is actually feasible--but likely highly illegal.
These two agents have their brains transplanted into the bodies of two college kids who died of head trauma, and are sent back out to college to work as deep cover agents--in 18-year-old bodies.
The younger agent, male, is probably between 27-30, the hacker/data analyst of the two. The older agent, female, is 35-40, the actual 'infiltrator'. Needless to say, both are rather surprised by this shift...and somewhat discomfitted, to say the very, very least. Especially as they need to get used to their new bodies, college life (again!), and all that sorts of stuff. I'm almost tempted to have them both end up in female bodies and make the male agent gay--so he can have all these weird adjustment problems. (But that probably opens up a can of worms I don't want to get into; plus, he's already sounding mentally a lot like a more fragile version of Abby.)
Anyway. They need to dodge terrorist agents, save their school, take midterms, navigate Rush and Hell weeks, &c., &c., all with the carrot being held out by the government of having their 'old' bodies cloned back and given to them.
Could make for a really interesting story on identity.
