Title: Before the Public Eye
Date: 06 June 2003
Players: Abernathy (logging), Chest, Kelly McLaren, Maria Romero
Summary: Chest invites Senator Maria Romero of Spain, along with Abernathy and Secretary General McLaren, over to have a mannerly debate on some of Romero's recent press conferences.
Broadcasting Rooms - GNN Central
On this level of the GNN building, one can find all the manner of equipment and stages to allow the GNN to deliver its fine quality programming. The main area here is dominated by a singular yet curved green desk with a blue screen behind it. That area makes up the set where the general news broadcasts to the public are made. Off to another side one can find a small set used for the ever-popular interviews. This area can be configured to simply have two modern contoured chairs with the flag of the country involved freeze framed as flowing in the wind, or can be done with a smaller, more home style feeling with simple wooden chairs, desk, or table and a nice country house background. This area is also used to house the various GNN field equipment, from the cameramanĂs light powerful camera, and the small anti-gravity cameras used for emergencies, to the odd looking microphones with the "Capcom" logo on them.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "Yes, an apology, director. The removal of the exiled representative from Kenya was... needlessly violent."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Javelin Whitetail transmits, "There be a lot of needless violence out there."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Bass transmits, "But it was fun!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Guts Man transmits, "Needless violence is what keeps Repliforce in business."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "I must admit, I find your concept of 'fun' to be... alien, Bass."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Guts Man transmits, "I find his concept of fun to be visionary!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "Admittedly, the Astroid was a stroke of genius."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Abernathy sounds mildly puzzled. "Yes, that it was. I'm afraid I cannot accept your apology, however -- that should go to the Interpol officers and other bystanders killed in the attacks, and their families. Not me."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "But violence requires... control."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "I shall."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Bass transmits, "Sometimes my avant-garde stylings cannot be fully appreciated until well after the fact."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Abernathy transmits, "OOC: Grk. Attack. Singular!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Guts Man transmits, "Don't worry, I can be the master of my domain Ballade."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "Mmm. Perhaps you would be willing to pass along my apology then, Director. I would do so myself, but I imagine my appearence on their doorsteps would... inspire panic."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Abernathy transmits, "That can be arranged."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "I would appreciate it. I am still attempting to diagnose where the error in my code came from, but it would appear I have been... less than myself."
The Camera turns on.
"This is Chest, live and with a special program for all of GNN's viewers!" The view is that of one of GNN's many interviewing sets. There are four well cushioned chairs side-by-side. Chest is in one of the middle ones, clearly in an attempt to make him the mediator. Abernathy sits to one side, also near the center. Kelly McLaren sits beside Abernathy. On Chest's other side is Senator Maria Romero. It was perhaps dubious reasoning that put Abernathy and McLaren sitting together, but the presumption is that Abernathy supports the woman who appointed the Director. "Today," Chest continues, "We have with us three very special guests. Secretary General McLaren, Senator Romero, and Interpol Director General Abernathy." The view focuses on each of them in turn, giving them a chance to nod or say a greeting or whatever they like.
The Director General offers the camera -- and the viewers beyond -- a polite, formal nod. Leave the elaborate greetings to the senator and the Secretary general; he has no need of such things.
She was dressed very stunningly, yet proper. She wore a black business dress suit with of course panty hose darkening her already dark spanish skin. Her thick long black hair full of life was flowing gently down and her lips had crimson red lipstick. Over her eyes was a pair of dark black sunglasses, probably very expensive, which allowed no one to see her charming black eyes.
She slowly brought her hands to her sunglasses and even slowly took them off and put them in her side coat pocket. She gave a smile at the camera with her seductive rosy lips and then turned to Chest to say, "Thank you Chest for inviting me to your studio for this debate." She then gave a wicked smile to Kelly and said,"I am honored to debate with you. Good luck."
Kelly McLaren simply smiles warmly at the camera, wearing her usual ensemble of appealing, yet respectful business attire. Her jade green eyes simply stare into the camera and out into the homes of the millions watching, conveying nothing more than simple warmth and affection. A hand then raises to pull a few unruly strands of firey red hair back over her shoulder, before she say simply, "Chest, always and honor, as well as you Director General, Senator Romero. I hope that these proceedings can be constructive, rather than destructive."
Chest nods in reply to any greetings in his direction, but since the camera isn't focused on him for it, it goes unnoticed. Finally once the trio have gone, Chest reappears, seemingly not noticing how honoured everyone is to be with everyone else. "Well, Secretary General, that's an interesting point; One could make the argument that this recent bout of..." Chest pauses to find the right word that isn't vulgar, "Press conferences have served little purpose other than to further divide the Senate. But hopefully we can put that to an end tonight." Chest peers at Maria Romero, "Senator, you believe the Secretary General is doing a poor job handling the threat of the Mavericks and Robot Masters. Why?"
Abernathy is just here to look pretty and keep the girls from killing each other in anyway beyond the political. Oh, and he might add some snappish comments here and there; but as it's the honorable senator Chest addresses first, the Director keeps quiet. He does look over in Maria's direction, however, awaiting her response to Chest's question.
Kelly McLaren LOL
Kelly McLaren ooc mis... -_-;;;
Kelly McLaren was uh... thinking of something funny, yes... like that time the Director General lost his pants.
Abernathy did not lose his pants. It's all lies. Lies and trickery.
Maria Romero nods at Chest and says,"Good question which I will be more the happy to answer. We, the senators of Europe, didn't mind the fact that Ms. McLaren was /appointed/ to her position in office. We were just happy that it was not Wily. We thought she was a strong and powerful leader. However, she proved the very opposite when me and twenty some odd senators found out we didn't have a country anymore. Are countries were taken over by Sigma. We, were expecting a large and powerful counter strike lead by are very leader over there. However, it still hasn't happened. I have to worry everyday of my people. Will Sigma decide to do a mass genocide tomorrow? Or will he enslave them? Where was the U.N who promised to protect us? Most of us had no army to fight back because of UN's army. We had no need for one before. It seemed it was a mistake to put are trust in them. Also of the Robot Masters and their fun loving /pranks/. I didn't think they were so fun, like Dr. Light does, when they destroyed the cafe I was in when I was sixteen. Twenty five people died that day. I was one of the lucky ones. A dead body protected me from death. I am amazed that the current administration is doing nothing. Most senators rile behind me when I say this. We are always on the defensive end, many people keep dying and we keep doing nothing. I am tired of doing nothing. Nothing can't always be an option for Ms. McLaren. Also her dealings with the internment camp situation in Germany is disgusting. We should have already sent a large force to get the people out of there ourselves. They are forced to either take cybernetics, or suffer in those camps. I can not allow that. I will not allow that while Im alive. She has turned her backs on us Europeans.
Blues steps from Blues' Secluded Cabin.
Blues has arrived.
Quietly and curteously nodding her head along with Maria's words, mulling over them carefully as she speaks them. As the Spanish Senator concludes her remarks, the Secretary General draws one deep breath before begining to carefully form her reply in her mind. After a few more moments of silence, Miss McLaren begins to speak. Hands folded in her lap casually, her tone moderated and even. Her eyes drifting to gaze at the Spanish Senator, engaging her in a very intense, but not hostile bit of eye-contact.
"Yes, I was appointed to my position, and I am aware that some members of the Security Council may have rose a bit of concern over my appointment, but do not forget that I spent many years serving as the United States Senator to the United Nations, and before then I held many public offices within my homeland. Also forget not that my country has always held high the principals of liberty, freedom, and equality, and I do not falter in upholding those three primary ideals. Ms. Romero, youspeak as if we have done nothing to protect the European Union from harm, when on the contrary, Europe has received the most military and political aid in the last five years. The commissioning of the Repliforce Headquarters in London, the installation of many more automated defenses, and a rather robust detachment of Interpol operatives. Do not speak of injustice and inability to defend our land, when we did everything we could to stop them. Just because we have the might, and the right, does not mean we will always necessarily emerge victorious. Many historical battles were won by underdogs with a superior tactician at the helm, and I will concede that in this situation, we were at odds with one of the world's greatest tactitions. Recall that Sigma, before his fall from grace, was once one of Repliforce's top officers, and since then, has surely refined his strategies and tactics. To underestimate him, would be a grave mistake, one that I do not feel we had made in concerns to the defense of Europe. Believe me, as I said then, that no expense, be it resource or manpower, was spared in the attempt to defend Europe from the Coalitions invasion, we were simply outmatched, outmanuvered, and unprepared for such a large scale concentrated assault."
The Secretary General pauses for a moment, to collect her thoughts once more, her tone and demeanor still remaining calm and leveled.
"However, I have no doubt that we will one day liberate Europe, and ensure it's prosperity and peace once more, through a collaboration between the Security Council, Interpol, and the Repliforce, I have no doubts that victory can be attained. In the 20th century, Europe found itself in a similiar situation, conquered by Adolph Hitler and his National Socialist party. He seemed to wield the very power of a God on the battlefield, and his tactics were quick and efficient, just as Sigma's are. He too, wished to threaten the very existance of an entire race, but he, just as Sigma shall be, was defeated in time, throguh the co-operation of the world's right minded and justice seeking nations. I have continued to cut budgets of other projects and operations, soley to fund a relief and liberation effort for the EU, and many couragous and noble men, women, and reploids have given their lives, and their livelyhood up to try and achieve this goal. Do not cheapen their sacrifice, in the name of impatience and untempered emotion. We all grieve for those who suffer in Europe, but if we are to defeat the Coalition, we must do so carefully, and thoughtfully, otherwise we may risk allowing another nation to fall under their dispicable control."
With a distinctive whistle, it appears someone is interrupting the procedings of this germaine debate. In a flash, Protoman appears next to Chest. "I'd like to take a moment to respond to the situation." Calmly, he speaks from behind his shades, a slight smile on his lips. "It's a truth that the United Nations, particularly before the codification of Interpol, can be traced back to the genesis of almost every major threat since the Old Fool decided to take over the world, mainly because they've been doing a crappy job. But..."
Proto pauses. Considers. "I would note that since Secretary General McLaren took office, there's been a remarkable reduction in screwups and major incidents. Just as Director Abernathy has attempted to improve a great deal of the internal crap still piled where the UN attempts to eat." He then turns, preparing to leave. Stops. Looks at Senator Romero. "You debate like a Re-Re. How the hell did you ever get elected?" Then, he gives a jaunty wave, and disappears in another flash of light, whistling that charming tune.
Blues goes home.
Blues has left.
Blues enters Blues' Secluded Cabin, not knowing what to see.

[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "...5000 zenny to whomever kills that bird. And yes, I'll take one legally."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dr. Wily transmits, "Make that 10, 000."

[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Alpha transmits, "Are you going to tell more of your story, Dust Man?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "I was planning on it."
Somewhere on the MUSH, Gale Sorcerer has disconnected.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Alpha transmits, "Oh"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "..."
Chest had a feeling that Maria would be happy to answer that question. Chest was right. His mood turns solemn as Maria counts up the horrific crimes that the Mavericks have done, and mentions the Robot Masters' pranks. Chest agrees completely that they're anything but funny. The GNN CEO has to remind himself to let McLaren give the answer. Despite the deal he has with Sigma and Wily, Chest truly does long for the day where the pair of them are put on trial and executed for the many deaths on their heads. Now to McLaren. Chest does a good job of looking interested throughout all this. The GNN CEO opens his mouth to add something when /SOMEONE/ barges in. Chest peers up at Protoman. Once Blues leaves, Chest smirks, "Elegantly said. Senator? Your response? What would you have done differently if you were in McLaren's position?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "Heeey. Dust Man... What's your intake capacity?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "Maximum capacity or maximum intake rate?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "Let's be frank. Dust Man sucks like nobody else."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "Well put, Proto."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Alloy groans and plays a rimshot soundclip.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits "Does that mean we can say 'You suck!' and it's not an insult?"
The Director merely remains silent through all of this backing and forthing between McLaren and Romero, leaning back in his chair and tenting his hands before him somewhere midway through Romero's initial remarks. Though there's no look of obvious struggle in his face, he's probably biting his tongue something fierce not to reply. When McLaren speaks up, Abernathy's gaze flicks toward her -- calm and watchful, but without any indication of what it is he might be thinking on the matter.
He almost -- almost -- speaks up as McLaren finishes, but Protoman pops in with his normal uncanny timing and says most of the less-than-polite things that the Director wanted to. (damn.) He does lean forward as Chest begins questioning Romero again, clearing his throat slightly. "Chest -- Senator -- if I may interject?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "That is correct."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits "Oh."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits "That sucks!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "SO, Rigger... Which are you looking for?"
Like she didn't even notice the interuption from Blues, she doesn't let no bodies to her ruin her day, she went on to answer Abernathy," If you would like to add, then please do. I don't mind."
Kelly McLaren nods curtly to Abernathy, "Of course." No mind is paid to Protoman, aside from a slight smirk at his commentary.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "Both, actually. I just want to know how much you can suck. ...Nevermind how bad that sounds."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits "Kekeke, Rigger has odd tastes *audible n.n* "
Chest nods to Abernathy, "By all means, Director."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, ".... I'm fixing my vacuum cleaner! Perverts."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, *audible n.n*
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "Right right... Well, I'd like to tell you, but that's classified."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Alpha transmits, "Rigger, I fear you may be bringing it on yourself."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "However..."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "I can never pass up a good pun, Alpha."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Nistro transmits, "..."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "I'd be happy to tell you all about it over dinner."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Manchuckles.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "It's a step up from Crash Man."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "I'd say it is."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Alpha transmits, "..."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "I'm much better behaved than the CrashBo."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "Sorry. Not my type."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "Bah."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "Quote Focault more often."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "Who?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits the sound of a carbonated peverage being open. *fshhhht*
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "Author. A rather dull one."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "Oh."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Nistro transmits, "The pendulum guy?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "I'm more a Sider Robinson fan."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "I find Asimov's Robot books... ironic, in the modern day and age."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Nistro transmits, " That's like Frankenstein questioning Mary Shelley."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "Not really."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "Or us questioning Styx."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "It's funny how people think that roboticists are required to follow Asimov's laws!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "15,000?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "I certainly don't follow the 3 laws. Nor do Reploids."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Nistro transmits, " Let me test the first robotic law *screams in the background* Doh! Not working!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "That sounded painful!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "Bring the bird to Tartarus so that I may cook it in the holy sacrament of barbeque."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dr. Wily transmits, "Protoman, I don't ask you very many things, but if you cook that bird, I want some."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "You're in a fowl mood, Proto."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "Hmm..."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "You're all just jealous! Kekekekekeke!" What people might be jealous of is something best not pondered about.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Nistro transmits, " Not really. Only the chair got stuck in his mouth."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "So how come Crash, and not me. Well, besides the buying the date thing?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "Money and beer do remarkable jobs of making men look better."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Nistro transmits, " Depends on what end of the bar you are."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "How come Crash? Because I lost a bet and I keep my word. No matter how much I might dislike it."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "Okay..."
"Ah. Thank you," the Director replies, with a graceful nod to all three of them.
Then the Director focuses his attention on Maria, eyes inscrutable as he speaks to her. "I would like to remind the honored Senator Romero of her standing with the United Nations, first of all. I find her harsh -- and perhaps unwarranted -- criticism of that body somewhat lacking in tact." He smirks slightly. "After all, it is by their generosity alone that she actually retains the title of 'senator' and the power associated with it, despite her member nation's status as disputed territory. If the senator wishes to withdraw from the United Nations and pursue her agenda more aggressively, then -- by all means -- I invite her to do so. Spain suffers unjustly, as does much of the rest of Europe, and yet she contents herself with keeping her position of privilege and while her days away with inflammatory talk and petty politicking."
Abernathy shifts his gaze from Romero to the camera, his tone shifting likewise -- from conversational to affirmative. "Interpol and the Repliforce both are actively engaged in working toward Europe's liberation, and yet we are both continually derided by those like the honored senator for 'not doing enough'. I will not be an apologist for our failings in the past, but at least we are trying. Senator Romero, counterwise, is living the life of a starlet, traipsing about the world stage and holding up her latest grievance for all the world to see."
His smirk goes briefly vicious. "These are not the actions of a patriot, ladies and gentlemen."
The viciousness dissolves. "However, I will not say that the actions of the United Nations, Interpol, or Repliforce have been entirely above reproach. It is true that -- in regards to the Maverick concentration camps -- we have not acted with the alacrity we should have. This is unfortunate, but true, and we are now faced with the task of making up for lost time. A daunting proposition, to be sure, but -- as the Mavericks have already driven much of Europe's human population from their lands -- not as difficult as it may have otherwise been."
There is a moment's pause, as Abernathy waits for his words to sink in; then he leans back in his chair, slightly, and offers another nod to Romero. "The floor is yours again, senator."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "Ooh, can I make a bet with Rigger?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "No."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "Can I have a cracker?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "Come to Tartarus. I'll give you a Cracker."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "One of mine, I presume."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues smirks audiably.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "Yay! *another n.n* "
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Nistro transmits, "Go go birdie!"
Chest focuses on Abernathy and adds in his own two cents. "I'd have to agree that the good Senator is harsh in her arguments, but that does not necessarily invalidate what she's saying. We're here to figure out who's right in this entire mess; not whether Senator Romero should learn her place or not." Chest smirks, "If she's right, and if the UN is failing to safeguard lives, then she should be heard." Chest nods at the rest of the points Abernathy brings up about what the UN is trying to do to stop Team Evil. He looks to Romero and asks, "So, once again, what would you do differently if you were in McLaren's place, Senator? Seems to me that she's doing all that can be done."
"I merely question her methods, not her right to be heard," Abernathy responds to Chest, before going silent again.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "Ah, Tartarus... it kinda smells funny."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "The pit smells much cleaner."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "Ooh, I'll go thattaway, then..."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "Waaaaiiiit a minute. This isn't some glaringly obvious attempt on my life, is it? Because if it is, you'll be soooorry!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "We're going to just serve dinner."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "AHIMONFIREIMONFIREITHURTSANDSTINGS!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "Proto! Killing it is one thing but that's just cruel!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dr. Wily transmits, "Make sure to baste him at regular intervals."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "ANd you burnt my corn!" Odd priorities.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "....He'll be in the grill shortly."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits, "RUN AWAY!"
The senator, Maria Romero, nods at Abernathy and says," Abernathy, I know I could have withdrawn from the UN along time ago. Many of times have I thought of that. However, then, I might as well say to Sigma, "Here you go, take it, I am through playing". However, I haven't. I am no position to make that decision for my people. I don't quite so easily when the game of life gets tough. A senator is the voice of the people in the senate. I speak for the people who can not. I travel around the world giving speeches, informing the people of the current situation. I don't have to do a thing outside my country, but I do. I even made a few secret trips into my own country to give speeches. Even if it means my life. I haven't given up on my people. I love the UN, just not how it is going right now."
She then turns toward Chest to answer him, "What I would have done? Do the thing that are current administration doesn't have the guts to do. I would have sent a large counter strike against Sigma before he could get a strong foot hold in Europe. The plan is reckless, I know. However it would have bought enough time to secure more of Europe then just the United Kingdom. It would have bought me enough time to think up more of a strategy on the next move. The loss of life would be tremendous on both sides. However, we wouldn't be running in circles like we are doing now, like these hit and run missions that don't barley put a dent for our cause. I won't play his games. I will use everything in my arsenal on him. If push came to shove, I would have carpet bombed maverick infested areas with emp bombs. Then have another swoop down and carpet bomb them with real explosive bombs to make sure of their /inactivity/. The problem with this is that it will terminate all robotic life in the area. It could be called a genocide, but when did Sigma ever be fair to us? Also if I was in her position right now I would concentrate on the economy almost as much as the war. Our economy is not doing so well right now. Many people have lost jobs because of the reploid expansion. I would try to give them back their jobs. However, Ms. McLaren can not be blamed for the economy. It is all in the peoples and businesses hands. I would try to get the repliforce more organized and ask for all countries to develop their own militia for defense. We don't want to make the same mistakes like Europe did. As for Wily, I am not to worried of him. Other then his annoying little /pranks/ he has not proved to deadly as Sigma. However, after the threat of Sigma has been neutralized I would turn my attentions to Wily. If I were to concentrate on them both equally then the forces would be spread to far out to do any good. You cant win on two fronts. It can be done, but not to likely."
Chest receives a radio transmission from Blues.
Kelly McLaren replies, in a rather brief and simple comment, "If we were to hit Europe with all of our resources, what is to stop the Robot Masters from expanding their territory? What is to stop the Mavericks from just moving on to another nation to enslave and mistreat? If were were to 'carpet bomb' Europe, then what would be left of it to protect? It must be a convienent place to exist, in your world, Ms. Romero. I however, do not live in a world of simple bigger is better confrontations. I have an entire planet to protect and to govern. I will never sacrifice the safety of others, to ensure that of others. The goal is to ensure global peace and prosperity, not to ensure protection for the unfortunate few who must suffer while the rest of us try to assist them."
Chest watches Maria. As far as he's concerned, it would be a horrible shame if Romero had to withdraw from the UN. It would mean the United Nations have failed her. Chest decides to save that for one of his editorials down the line. It isn't his job to bitch. "Well," he asks slowly, "The past is the past, and hindsight is 20/20, Senator. What would you do now? And as for concentrating on just Sigma and avoiding the Robot Masters, that might not work." Chest pauses as he gets a transmission and glares at the camera. He shakes his head in reply to whoever sent him the transmission, signally 'no'. He continues, "Repliforce doesn't always get to choose its battles, afterall. Wily is usually the one attacking, and Repliforce has little choice but to defend." He nods in agreement with McLaren.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "As Chest is too polite to state the obvious, we'd like to make it clear that Maria Romero is a Re-re with no understanding of modern electronics, the cost of human life, or ability to resist bright shiny objects. Especially with ribbons."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "... I'm probably going to regret this, but what on Earth is a 'Re-re'?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "Short bus. Bad teeth. Drools a lot. They proabably gave her a stealth-coated bib for the debate."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dr. Wily singsongs. "Special means retarded, special means retarded...."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Bass transmits, "But I'd like to see Europe returned to the 1500s. I like those Renaissance Fairs."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "They didn't really have roast turkey legs in the 1500s."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Bass transmits, "They didn't? Man, what a ripoff."
Chest takes a sip of coffee to avoid falling asleep.
Maria gave a hard stare to Kelly as she says, "I said /emp/ bombs. Totally harmless to buildings, but not for robots or androids. The few cities that will be destroyed is because of the second swoop of real bombs. The cities can and will be rebuilt. We done it before, and we will be gladly to do it again if it means are freedom. Our cities don't occupy all the land in our countries you know. You clearly don't understand are need for freedom, do you Ms. McLaren? What is stopping the Mavericks now from taking more land? Or Wily? They can clearly take the middle east with ease in their positions now. Most countries relieved them selves from their own militaries to make it even more easier. The repliforce will not be able to assemble their forces fast enough to take a large evasion. It showed with Europe, why not again? It must be nice living in your little world where everything can be done peacefully and safely? Where /everyone/ can be happy in the end? I am glad that one of us can live in that special little world. They take your kindness and use it against you. Can't you see that? You clearly don't have the guts to take on Sigma or Wily."
Kelly McLaren shrugs, standing up and bowing slightly to Chest, "I do appreciate the opportunity, sir." She then turns to Maria and says, "No life is worth pointlessly wasting in the name of genocide, even if it is of the Coalition forces. What of all the civilian reploids who live in Europe? You may see them as 'just robots', but I don't. I see them as living, breathing, caring, loving people, just as human as we are. Furthermore, don't ever question my courage, or my dedication, I give everything I can to this effort, but as I've said before, brute force will not solve this conflict. So what if we wiped out all of the Coalition forces in Europe, it would only make Sigma and his followers martyrs, to inspire a new generation of maverick reploids. I suggest you read up on your history, Ms. Romero, otherwise, you'd already know that your continent has suffered once already for the short sighted and bigoted view of those who felt they were in the right, and just."
Chest watches as Kelly stands up, "Well, it seems like we won't be able to finish this discussion tonight." He doesn't sound surprised, "But at least we were able to get a few things off our chest, eh?" First person to laugh at Chest mentioning a chest gets a boot shoved where the sun doesn't shine. If Chest had boots. Or feet. "Ah, well, thank you for taking the time to talk with us, Secretary General. Director, Senator? Any last words before we conclude?"
Maria said with a smirk,"No thank you. Thank you again for having me Chest. I was honored to be here. Sad to say that Ms. McLaren walked out while the going got tough. Not surprised though, just like her."
Chest smirks. While he may agree with a lot of what Maria said, the Senator does seem to delight in taking cheap shots. Not exactly a diplomatic girl. Of course, /Chest/ is hardly diplomatic, if we'll recall some of his swearing-fests. But hey, that's what makes double-standards oh so wonderful. "It was a pleasure, Senator." He has to say that or else the others on the board of directors get all pissy at him.
The Director has maintained that silence even through McLaren and Romero turning to -- assuredly diplomatic -- name-calling, merely listening. One learns so much more that way than actually jumping into the scuffle. Even as McLaren rises and walks off, he keeps his peace -- and allows Romero to get in her one last little dig at the Secretary General before he replies.
"It has been an interesting experience, to say the least," he murmurs. "And I am glad to have, at last, a chance to listen to the senator expound upon her policies in full."
He pauses thoughtfully, mulling over his words a moment, before continuing. "Although I do hope that next time dear Maria decides to come forward and advise aggressive measures to handle the Maverick problem, she spend a little more time researching her methods." A cold little smile flickers across his face, and he addresses Maria directly.
"Maria, I have a friend -- Dr. Pavel Cossack; I'm sure you know of him -- who might be very happy to enlighten you as to the drawbacks of mass EMP bombing. And *I* would be more than happy to enlighten you as to Interpol's course of action for the next few months -- though such meetings might require you to jeopardize your tour schedule, of course." His smile goes from icy to charming, and he rises from his seat to give both of them a polite half-bow.
"Again. Thank you both for the opportunity."
"I would like to learn more about massive emp dropings actually. Us politicians are no scientists. I rather be knowing then ingnorant. I am not afraid to say when I am wrong. However, yes..to put it simply, I am for more of an offinsive position. About meeting with the good Doctor, it really matters when me and Dr. Crossak could meet. My people do come first before my own endevors. It was a pleasure meeting with you Director, and Chest. I believe it is time to take my leave." She stands and bows to them. Puts her sunglasses right back on and smoothly walks off the view of the camera.
Chest smiles as it doesn't look like everything is /quite/ over just yet. The GNN owner waits for Abernathy and Romero finish trading a few more barbs and looks into the camera, "Well, to sum it all up, I suppose it all depends on just how much you're willing to do to stop the problem. Do the ends justify the means, essentially. Bombing the piss out of Europe is one thing, but one could argue that that would be /worse/ than the damage that the Mavericks and the Robot Masters do. I'd like to take this chance to thank Senator Romero, Secretary General McLaren, and Director General Abernathy. Good night."
The Camera turns off.

Kelly McLaren ooc mis... -_-;;;

[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "...Do I get a hat?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "Of course you get a hat."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Bass transmits, "Would you like one?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "I'm fascinated. Sure."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Bass transmits, "Alright. I'll make you a hat."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits "Proto Man gets the Daddy Pants!"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "Mmm. Actually... would you care for a case of Wily Beer?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "...5000 zenny to whomever kills that bird. And yes, I'll take one legally."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dr. Wily transmits, "Make that 10, 000."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits "Kekekekekekeke! *audible n.n* "
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "I'm the minister of beer. I'll give the orders. Care of Light Labs?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "Make it 2. That way Light can take one."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Blues transmits, "Besides, I was the one stealing them."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Rigger transmits, "Thought that'd be Crash's job. Or would he just drink it all?"
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Ballade transmits, "Precisely."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man transmits, "While I'm sure EVERYONE is FASCINATED by the debate..."
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Dust Man clears his throat.
[Radio: (C) Globalcrack] Gimel says nothing, but the Ninja Birdbot transmits "Daddy Pants, Daddy Pants! Can /you/ handle the Daddy Pants? Vweeeeee!"
