[muse]: an idle thought
Aug. 9th, 2003 03:53 amThis is a thought I've been playing with for a while, sorta on and off. It's a fun exercise. It'll never happen, I'm sure, but it has proven a good framework for doing visual imagination around.
Also, yeah. I blame this on
sekhmet's muy hawt music video set to Sadame. (Which see.)
So...
This would be the trailer to a possible Interpol/Civ-centric movie. Yes, based on M3. M3 the Movie! It would rawk hardcore!
---
[Begin.]
[Clip opens on a black screen. The initial four seconds or so are silent, for the usual movie production identification stuff(tm), before it goes into a voice over. Our 'narrator' is male, middling tenor, with a hint of a European accent and intonation to his voice.]
VOICE OVER: Throughout our history, human behavior has been characterized by a constant search for something higher, something purer than gross animal passions.
In the beginning, men turned to religion for their answers. From this primitive faith arose greater concepts. Some of these remain formless and nameless to this day, while others still hold pride of place--even in our derivative, degraded culture.
Justice--
[Cut from black to a tense scene in some official UN room. Abernathy, flanked by Bridgit, stands across a table from none other than Prismatic Spider. The Interpol Director and his AD look grimly determined; Prism looks unhappy but accepting.]
ABERNATHY: If it were a simple matter of negligence, commander, I'd leave it in Repliforce's hands. But as it stands, his 'negligence' cost thirteen hundred people their lives. We cannot simply let that slide.
[Cut back to black, in a sort of 'flash' transition.]
VO: Loyalty--
[Flash transition. Several Interpol officers are standing shoulder to shoulder, in a swearing in sort of ceremony.]
OFFICERS: (unison) --To act in my duty as an officer of Interpol, and uphold and serve the United Nations to the best of my ability and knowledge. I will aid my fellow-officers wherever there is need, never failing to uphold the democratic ideals of the United Nations--
[Flash back to black.]
VO: Innovation--
[Flash transition. It's Sarah Fairchild's lab! Retro Packrat, Ayla, and several other science-y types have piled in for a demonstration. Sarah is pointing to a holographic blackboard as she speaks, while the SPIRITs hover about her.]
DR. FAIRCHILD: As you can see, the resonance cannon packs considerably more firepower for its size and actual power draw from a standard fusion core than other, similar weapons. So, if we replace the normal complement of lasers on the Ride Armors with resonance cannons--
ATLAS: They'll be better at blowing the hell outta things!
IGNIS: BUUUURN!
MIMIR: Oh, do shut up.
[Sarah glares at the drones. Flash to black.]
VO: Honor--
[Flash transition. Valor and several other enforcement officers are having a heated discussion.]
VALOR: I don't care what the damn bureaucrats are saying! There are people dying out there, and I swore I'd stop Vile from doing just this kind of thing! I'm going out there, even if it gets me thrown out!
[Flash to black.]
VO: Love--
[Flash. Jacob Grauswein and Bridgit are in the garages. It looks like Jacob's suiting up to go out to battle or something equally crazy, and Bri's in her 'I am a tank commander' uniform.]
BRIDGIT: Grauswein.
[Jacob looks up from what he's doing, at Bridgit.]
BRIDGIT: Take care of yourself out there.
[Flash. But not to black--to a pair of pink eyes staring levelly at the camera out of the darkness. Camera slowly pans out to reveal--hey, it's Abernathy!]
VO/ABERNATHY: Of course, our world is no longer a purely human one, as we find ourselves sharing more and more of it with machines of our own design. And between human bigotry and machine naivete, there is increasingly less room for these concepts to grow and flourish.
My job is to see that they still can.
[Flash--to action! With typical dramatic action movie music in the background; you know the sort.]
[First shot: Camera pans down from UN dome to Abernathy and Ernest Fairbanks standing in the Plaza. Abby has that typical smirk on his face, while Ernie looks simply confused.]
ABERNATHY: Welcome to Interpol, Officer Fairbanks.
[Second shot: The inside of the Defiant, with a mussed and scuffed-up Bri at the controls. Just as the camera cuts in, the tank rocks from a heavy hit. Bridgit swears and hits the control panel with the flat of her hand.]
BRIDGIT: Dammit! Gunner, load up th' armor-piercing rounds and give 'em hell!
[Third shot: Several recognizable Interpol officers (Hampton, Fairbanks, Oannes, Sarah) are clustered around a small television. Obviously, the news is poor, as the men look grim and Sarah has a hand to her mouth.]
TV ANCHERWOMAN: A sudden Maverick strike on London today left over forty people dead and several hundred wounded. While Interpol has labeled it an act of 'senseless terrorism', Maverick spokespersons are claiming it as a great victory for the Coalition, and a retaliatory attack for the stiff Repliforce offensive earlier this month--
[Fourth shot: Gale knocking back a drink and looking particularly shaken by something.]
[Fifth shot: Tengu (hi Tengu!) throws a battered Abernathy at Bridgit's feet and begins laughing.]
TENGU: Here, take him! You can keep him this time. He bites, and I doubt he's housebroken.
[By now, the film clips have begun speeding up, more of a montage of images. Sixth shot: Valor dueling Ballade with the chaotic UN Plaza behind him. Seventh, eighth, and ninth shots all feature various clips of Interpolers in action: Jake and crew defusing bombs, Ernie and Bri working on the Defiant, Gabriel driving one of the Ride Armors through a Maverick formation. Tenth clip is of Xiang and his Messenger and Herald facing down a group of Interpolers.]
XIANG: What I began in China, Director, cannot be stopped by force of arms. You should know this.
[Flash to black, with white block lettering: ]
Fiat justitia. Ruit caelum.
VO: I will strive in my utmost to act in my duty as an officer of United Nations, to uphold the dignity of my office at all times and support the democratic ideals of the government to which I pledge loyalty...
[Flash to a clip of--Feste, staring straight at the camera.]
FESTE: Never forget what you've come here to do.
[Black.]

The end.
