coronaviridaeJust something I thought of this morning while waiting for the shuttle back from Thornton, and eating my scone.
Tesseract Seraph: *ughs and rubs at her face* I had a Bad Idea to make Abby suffer more and drive plot. I like it, but I'm afraid it'll be self-serving and angstridden.

Tesseract Seraph: *rubs at the bridge of her nose* He was supposed to be a Black SHIELD agent, right? Doing black ops for 'em. Except hooking up with Procyon threw off their schedule of training and testing and stuff, and when McLaren went insane and appointed him DirGen, it messed things up worse. But BS (hohoho) still needs him...
Tesseract Seraph: So now that Oannes is back and he knows, that's one less point of leverage on him. And he won't let /anyone/ get near Melissa, or even know much about her existence, if he can help it. But they still have one really big hook in him--his cybernetics.
Viral Reverie: o.o eep. What'll they do?
Tesseract Seraph: Well. I dunno if they gave him a kill-switch; they may have, which means they could probably just cut /everything/ off if he got really out of line. But it's something they probably want to hold in reserve. However, since Procyon nearly barbequed him, some of the cybernetics--the stuff in his lungs and heart, esp.--have been really seriously damaged. He doesn't actually /know/ the extent of the damage, because most UN cyberneticists are...well, in the pay of Black SHIELD. And he has a minor, though justified, fear of surgery under anesthesia, which'd be the only way to really check the extent of the damage. :/

ICly, he /appeared/ to recover fully from what happened, but he's still messed up inside, and he's been told that--that's why he's taking a few weeks light duty, so he can give the autorepair some time to kick in. Buuuut...it may not. x_x Or it may, but not fully. And what I'm thinking is that, on Xiang's words, he's going to start hunting Black SHIELD within his own ranks. And rooting them out, one by one. This will be a bad thing, so BS (hohoho) will send in someone to give him a warning about it.
Eee, hadn't thought of that. Is there any possibility she'd be in with Black SHIELD, tho?
Viral Reverie: I never thought of her being with a secret black-ops government thing. Just figured she was Doing Her Job.
Tesseract Seraph: *nods* Okay. :D I'm just wondering, because their reach is pretty pervasive.
So, anyway. Abby being Abby, he wouldn't take the warning. Might even send the messenger back dead, if he was pissed enough. That will do nothing for 'em. So they'll give him another warning--either about the kill-switch, or that they know about Melissa, or something. He'll ignore it. But all this time, his general stress level will be building, and building, and building...
Tesseract Seraph: And then, wouldn't you know, he gets sick. :} Pneumonia, compounded with the way his lungs never healed quite right, so he'll be in really bad shape. And Black SHIELD will conspire to withhold treatment, pending his caving to their demands.
Viral Reverie: is SHIELD PC?

Viral Reverie: Who plays in SHIELD?
Tesseract Seraph: Oh. :D No one, /really/, but there are a couple of IC characters with connections (not all Interpol--Dynamo, Fury, a couple of Mavericks, etc.) who RP those, and I know there're at least two apps in the works or in the Civbox for characters who work with SHIELD directly.
Viral Reverie: I like knowing who Oannes might have to fight to keep Abby safe.
Tesseract Seraph: *nods* :} Well, this might be a little harder to do. So, he's on the verge of coughing up his lungs, nowhere in UN territory is exactly /safe/ to seek help, or, even if he could get the pnuemonia/lung problems fixed, not for the kill-switch thing...so why not make a deal with the Devil in the form of Xiang? O:}
Just an idle idea, tho. And as you pointed out, there's more ways out than being driven to that extreme. Even so...

Viral Reverie: Abby gets sick. And even then refuses to deal with Xiang or anyone he doesn't trust. It's killing him. He knows Oannes would watch Mellissa, so why does he bother fighting? So he doesn't seek help. Until he's too weak to do anything, whereupon Oannes finds out that this is happening. And picks him up. Goes to Xiang himself. Tells Xiang to fix Abernathy, or he'll kill Xiang. And sit there, with a gun to Xiang's head all through the operation.
Tesseract Seraph: ...My gosh. :D I could see that.
Tesseract Seraph: Especially if SHIELD cornered him; he'd be more willing to let himself die than submit.
Viral Reverie: Abby might not submit, but Oannes isn't Abby. And Oannes doesn't want to lose his family.
Tesseract Seraph: *nods* Well. He might be willing to go to Xiang--he trusts that Xiang has SOME kind of idea of honor, for not working with BS (hohoho), and that Xiang'll keep his word that he wants Abby alive...but he would never, ever give in to SHIELD's demands.
Tesseract Seraph: Think Murky and Sunstar. o_O

Tesseract Seraph: It's something I'd wanna do over a course of months, maybe. Starting now. Give time for some of the people apping Black SHIELD to get in.
